The City’s Public Works staff on Thursday implemented new traffic signal coordination along the entire stretch of Marguerite Parkway as part of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Project P.
Traffic signal synchronization allows a series of lights along a street to turn green based on synchronized timers set to current traffic patterns and congestion levels. Signal synchronization is a cost-effective way to reduce overall stops and travel delays.
The new coordination along Marguerite Parkway will adjust signal timing to optimize morning, midday and evening traffic flows between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Coordination will also be in place each Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but signals will operate in a free mode on Sunday.
During synchronization periods, motorists may experience longer wait times at side streets and for left turns.
City staff will monitor and adjust the new timing as needed.
